From Prison Records Robert Gymer (34) received into custody 3 Apr 1832 for not appearing to answer an indictment for perjury preferred against him at the Norfolk Lent Assizes
30 Jul 1832 Norfolk Assizes:- Robert Gymer sentenced to 1 months imprisonment & 7 years transportation for perjury. Transported on 6 Apr 1833 aboard the "Enchantress" to Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania). From the Norfolk Chronicle 4 Aug 1832 (and Norwich Mercury of same date) Robert was charged with false & malicious perjury in that he had given false evidence against a John Bales, teamerman, in a case of arson in the Witchingham area. Defence stated he had made the deposition to clear himself from implication in arson & not from malicious motives. William Symonds & Richard Neal gave the prisoner a good character. Guilty!. From UK Prison Hulk Registers 1802-1849 Robt Gymer (34) aboard Captivity for perjury sentence 7 yrs 1 mth at Norwich 30 Jul 1832. Disposed UDL 30 Oct 1933

Later after operating some ice cream parlors in Ohio Edwin was employed as a Grocery store manager, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, known as the A & P company a very important and national retail grocery chain hired him and he earned a reputation for reorganizing stores that were in trouble.
